Hope Kata(K) was founded on July 13/2017. The founding members observed and identified some of the challenges newcomers (immigrants) encounter when they try settling in Canada. The focus of the organization aims to provide individuals and families with the necessary tools and support during and after the one year of federal government funding and settlement agencies terminate support. Hope Kata will attempt to provide support by identifying effective community resources to support family-sponsored, group-sponsored, government-sponsored, and organizations-sponsored individuals and families. The primary support for newcomers shall focus on academic, economic, and social integration and success. Hope K in a limited capacity aims to provide support to young children/mothers who are displaced or are in refugee camps in East Africa.
Purpose
Hoke K is determined to provide supports that will bridge the gap for individuals and families with no access to agency supports. Hope-K will develop effective community resources with the knowledge of sensitive social and political circumstances the immigrants are affected by. Traditionally federal government funding for newcomers is time-sensitive limited to one year. The majority of individuals who are traumatized require an extended period of time to successfully settle. A large segment of immigrants is left without social support a year in Edmonton which contributes to social stressors.
Vision
Hope Kata envisions a society where newcomers participate and thrive in the community.
Mission

- Hope Kata serves people within the appropriate cultural context with sensitivity, dignity, respect, and empathy.
- Hope Kata values collaboration and community.
